Follow these steps to ensure safe and effective removal of your Ortho-k lenses.
Using Your Fingers
- Confirm the Lens Position: Ensure the Ortho-k lens is in the centre of your eye by looking in the mirror.
- Open Your Eyelids: Place the index finger of both hands on the upper and lower eyelids and pull your eyelids wide open.
- Remove the Orthokeratology Lens: Use the margin of the lower eyelid to position the bottom edge of the Ortho-k lens while using the upper margin of the upper eyelid to push down and in towards the eye. This will cause the upper eyelid margin to lift the upper edge of the Ortho-k lens, allowing you to remove the Ortho-k lens slowly.
- Apply Lubricating Drops: After removing the Ortho-k lenses, you can instil Hyloforte preservative-free lubricating eye drops if your eyes feel dry.
Using the Silicone Contact Lens Suction Plunger
- Prepare the Plunger Device: Hold the plunger with your index finger and thumb.
- Hold the Lower Eyelid: Use the middle finger of the same hand to pull down your lower eyelid.
- Hold the Upper Eyelid: Use your other hand to hold your upper eyelid open. This ensures both eyelids are comfortably held open, facilitating easier lens placement.
- Remove the Orthokeratology Lens: Slowly move the head of the plunger towards the centre of your eye and gently press it onto the front surface of the ortho-k lens. This will allow the plunger to suction onto the Ortho-k lens. Pull the rubber plunger away from your eye to remove the Ortho-k lens.
- Release the Orthokeratology Lens: Gently squeeze both sides of the head of the suction holder to release the Ortho-k lens into the lens case for cleaning.
- Apply Lubricating Drops: After removing the lenses, you can instil Hyloforte preservative-free lubricating eye drops if your eyes feel dry.
- Clean the Suction Device: Rinse the contact lens plunger with a multipurpose solution and air dry in a clean place.
