Inserting your Orthokeratology (Ortho-k) lenses can seem daunting at first, but with practice, it becomes a straightforward part of your daily routine.
Follow these steps to ensure you’re inserting your lenses correctly and safely for optimal vision correction.
- Wash Your Hands: Begin by washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water. This crucial step helps prevent the transfer of dirt, oils, or bacteria to your eyes and Ortho-k lenses.
- Prepare the Lens: Place the Ortho-k lens on the fingertip of your index finger with the concave side facing up. This ensures the lens is correctly oriented for insertion.
- Use Lubricating Eye Drops: Apply 1–2 drops of Hylo-Forte preservative-free lubricating eye drops onto the concave side of the Ortho-k lens. This step helps lubricate the lens surface and enhances comfort during insertion.
- Hold the Lower Eyelid: Use the same hand that is holding the lens to gently pull down your lower eyelid with your middle finger.
- Hold the Upper Eyelid: Use your other hand to hold your upper eyelid open. This ensures both eyelids are comfortably held open, facilitating easier lens placement.
- Insert the Orthokeratology Lens: Position your head in a downward-facing angle with a mirror underneath, facing upwards. This position helps you see clearly while inserting the Ortho-k lens. Gently place the ortho-k lens directly onto the centre of your eye, aiming for the iris, the coloured part of your eye. Release your eyelids slowly to allow the lens to settle naturally onto the cornea. Blink lightly to help centre the Ortho-k lens properly.
By following these steps, you can ensure that your Ortho-k lenses are inserted correctly, providing you with clear vision throughout the day.
